ABSTRACT viii Spell checker is a software feature that checks for misspellings in a text. Spell-checking features are often embedded in software or services such as a word processor, email client, electronic dictionary or search engine. An alternative type of spell checker uses solely statistical information, such as n-grams, to recognize errors instead of correctly-spelled words. This approach usually requires a lot of effort to obtain sufficient statistical information. I was motivated to embark on this research because teachers spend more time on checking student spelling on paper one by one and another problem is difficult for students to spell correctly in their book. Also building spell checker web based application is time constrain. The system was achieved by developing a platform for automated spell checker application management information system, develop a platform that enables the student to learn how to spell correctly, develop a platform that enables the teachers to check the spelling of the student, test the system whether it can help the teachers and student in conducting a spelling quiz, build a database to store information of the teachers and the student, build a database to record the mark ofthe student. This research was realized through the adoption of primary and secondary sources of data collection which includes interview, observation, questionnaire, the internet and journals and the adoption of spiral model. The system is implemented by using HTML as front end, PHP as back end and MYSQL as the database.
