Quality control on weights and lengths of kitchen-bar and tablet soap (a case study of j. Udeagbala holdings, plc, aba)

ABSTRACT

This study centers on the application of statistical quality control techniques to soap production to ensure that the lengths and weights of soap produced does not deviate from the stipulated standard. A practical observation on lengths and weights of this product (soap) were taken and recorded. X-charts and R-charts were used in the analysis to check whether they conform to specification or not. In this study, the technique of the statistical quality control called process means and variability of each of weights and lengths of bar soap and tablet soap. The ultimate objective is to determine if the production process is in state of quality control. The X-bar charts constructed for weights and lengths of the two types of soap all indicate that the process mean is under quality control in each case. Similar results are also obtained when R-charts are constructed for both quality characteristics. It is therefore recommended that the company understudy should maintain quality and encourage rectification exercise when necessary in order to avoid unnecessary loss of resources.
