Prevalence Of Intestinal Parasites Among Students Of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture Umudike On Campus

ABSTRACT

 A study on intestinal parasites among student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike on campus was carried out between June and October, 2008. A total of 200 stool samples were examined using concentration technique, ten (4.9%) of the students were infected out of which (5.6%) were male while (5.4%) were female. The parasites identified were hookworm (2.O%), Ascaris Iu,nhr,coides (1.5%) and Tae,iia species (I .5%). The highest prevalence of I (11.1) and that found in females was in the age range of 16— 18 with prevalence rate of 4 (11.1). Student in D hostel (6.66%) were infected than those of other hostels (P>0.05). The study revealed that the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infection in the study area is low.
