ABSTRACT

Sicwhyloloccus is a genus of Gram positive, cocci bacteria, non- sporing, non-motile, catalase positive and oxidase negative. This study was aimed at identifying different species of Staplylococcus from 50 apparently healthy students (25 male, 25 female), and determine their antibiogram. From the result obtained, 3 different species comprising of Staplylococus atireus (22), Staplylococcus epidermidis (9), Staplylococcus Saprop/yticus (6), were identified using normal microbiological methods. A total of 37 isolates were obtained with Staplylococcus aureus having the highest prevalence of (59.5%) and Staplylococcus saprophy/icus had the least prevalence of (16.2%) The antibiogram result showed that Levofloxacin was the most sensitive antibiotic (81.8%) and Chioromopherical had the highest resistance (36.5). The skin gave the highest percentage of isolates (54.7%) and the nasal mucosa (Nose) gave the least percentage of isolates (45.9). The result also showed that Staplylococcus Saproplytius was not found in the nasal mucosa (Nose). It is recommended that adequate personal and Environmental hygiene, Banior Nursing, Avoidance of antibiotic abuse, proper legislation on the sale of antibiotics -and regular medical cheek- up e.t.c is advocated to drastically reduce Staplyloccoci associated infections.
