ABSRTACT
Phonon is a quantum of vibrational energy and the phonons density of state gives the number of modes per unit frequency per unit volume of real space. The entire set of all possible phonons that are described by the phonon dispersion relation combine in what is known as phonon density of state which determines the heat capacity of a crystal. In a crystal each atom are coupled with the neighboring atoms by spring constants. The equation of motion of atoms around thermal equilibrium position was discussed in terms of several method, which include numerical calculation on the eigenvalue problem (based on the mathematical) and the translation operators in the quantum mechanics. MATLAB was used to run the simulation. And in the simulation, the density of state and the dispersion relations of the following semiconductors ( cadmium sulphide, cadmium telluride and cadmium selenide) were calculated.
