ABSTRACT

Magnifera indica is a rampant Nigerian plant with history of application in traditional medicine for the treatment of degenerative diseases by indigenous Nigerians. The dried powdered plant parts were extracted using aqueous and ethanol solvents. The antioxidant activity of the concentrated extracts was determined using the ferric reducing anti-oxidant power (FRAP), nitric oxide radical inhibiting activity and 2, 2’-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The results obtained were analysed statistically. In DPPH assay, the leaf ethanol extracts showed the percentage DPPH scavenging activity with values increased with increase in concentration till at 50 pg/mL concentration where there is no significant change, ferric reducing anti-oxidant power (FRAP) show that the percentage antioxidant activity increases with increase in concentration, nitric oxide radical inhibiting activity show an concentration where it declined and shows no ethanol extracts of magnifera indica shows an i with Ascobic acid.
