ABSTRACT
Immunomodulatory potential of fermented Parkia biglobosa was investigated in albino rats using immunologic / haematologic indices. The animals were divided into three groups (n=4). Group 1 which was the test group received 150mg/kg body weight of parkia biglobosa and lml of Pyrogallol. Group 2 which was the positive control received lml of pyrogallol only and group 3 which was the normal control group received normal feed and water for 30 days after which blood was drawn by ocular puncture for assays. The results showed a significant increase (P<0.05) in the total white blood cell count in group 1 when compared to the positive control group. Also there was a non-significant (P>0.05) increase when group 1 was compared to the normal control in packed cell volume and haemoglobin count. Results of antioxidants glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) showed a significant decrease (P>0.05) in group 1 when compared to the positive control group. There was a significant increase (P<0.05) in Primary and secondary antibodies titre of rats given Parkia biglobosa and normal control when compared to the positive control. Therefore, the results showed that Immunomodulatory effect of Parkia biglobosa is via stimulation of antibody production and increased white blood cell count in serum of test animals. >
