Mushroom species abound in Nigerian forests and farm lands. Some of the mushrooms have been identified while many remain yet unidentified. Some of the mushroom species occurring in parts of Imo and Abia States were collected from the woods, farmlands and home surrounding using cutlasses and metal diggers. These were identified using standard mushroom text books. Mushroom species identified included Auricularia auricular, Chlorophyllum molybdites (Mayer exfr), Cortinarus sp, Lycoperdon, Panus fulvus, Pleurotus squarrosolus, Pleurotus Tuber- regium, Psattyrel/a multipedata, Schzorphyllum commune, Termitomyce Mammi formis. These mushrooms are mostly edible mushrooms. Edible mushrooms are used extensively in cooking.
