ABSTRACT Hie study above shows the examination of effect offresh and feimented aqueous fraction of crude palm oil on heart, kidney, liver and the effect on the body and organ weight The acute toxicity study ofthe aqueous fiaction were carried out using eighteen male wistar albino mice while forty five male wistar albino rats were used forthis study on histopathological evaluation. Hie rats were grouped into five groups with groul having five rats while toxicity study ofboth group 2 to 5 had 10 rats each. Group 1 serves as normal control thatreceives 2ml/kg body weight of normal saline and 5 rats each in group 2 to 5 received 100, 200, 400 and 600mg/kg body weight offresh and fermented aqueous fraction of crude palm oil respectively for 28days. The result ofthe acute toxicity study ofboth fresh and fermented aqueous fiaction ofcrude palm oil shows that the aqueous fiaction were relatively safe as no death nor adverse reaction were observed in the mice after 24hours of the administration of aqueous fraction. There ware significant (p<0.05) dose dependant increases in all the histopathological evaluation on heart, kidney, liver administered different doses offresh and fermented aqueous fiaction ofcrude palm oil when compared with normal control. Thus, suggesting that rats administered graded doses of both fresh and fermented fraction ofcrude palm oil respectively might have suffered different degrees ofheart, kidney and liver damages with respect to the control. However, the histological evaluation ofthe organ weight to body weight ofrats reveals a decrease of heart weight when treated with aqueous fraction offresh and fermented aqueous fraction of crude palm oil when compared to their body weight Also it reveals a decrease ofkidney weight when compared to their body weight while that of the liver administered various doses of fresh and fermented aqueous fraction ofcrude palm oil when compared to the normal suggest possible haemolysis of liver cells. The findings ofthe study suggest that the fresh and fermented aqueous fraction of crude palm oil could cause significant heart, kidney, liver damages despite the result of acute toxicity study and so may be toxic on continual consumption
