■ABSTRACT V xi deduced that over Sida acuta burm I The Hematological profile of ethanol extract of Sida acuta burm F leaves on female albino rats was conducted. Sixty female albino rats were divided into four groups(I- IV) of fifteen animals per cage. Group I (normal control ) through feed formulation was sustained on normal diet and water. Doses of the ethanol extract of Sida acuta burm F leaves (200 mg/kg BW, 400 mg/kg BW and BOO mg/kg BW) were used for feed formulation. Group II, III and IV were given feed formulation with the graded doses of extract concentration 200 mg/kg BW , 400 mg/kg BW and 800 mg/kg BW respectively for a period of ninety days. The hematological profile of the experimental rats (5 from each group) were assessed at the end of each successive thirtieth (30) day. The hematological parameters evaluated were the hemoglobin, PCV, red blood cell count (RBC), MCV, MCH, MCI1C, Total white blood cell count, lymphocytes, neutrophils’ monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils. The result from this study showed that at day 30, 60 and 90, there was no significant difference (p>0.05) in the components of the red blood cell (Hemoglobin, PCV, RBC, MCV. MCH. MCHC) and the total white blood cell count (TWC) of the rats in group 11 ( 200 mg/ kg BWg III (400 mg/ kg BW) and IV(800 mg/ kg BW) when compared to the normal control (group I). However, at day 30 there was no significant difference (p>0.05) in the white blood cell components of the experimental rats in group II (200 mg/kg BW). IV(800 mg/kg BW) except in the relative eosinophils of group III (400 mg/kg BW) which showed a significant decrease (P<0.05) in comparison to the normal control group (I). At day 60, there was a significant decrease (p<0.05) in the relative neutrophil in group II and a significant increase (p<0.05) in the absolute neutrophil of the rats in group III (400 mg/kg BW) in comparison to the normal control. Also a significant increase (p<0.05) was shown in the relative eosinophil of group II (200 mg/kg BW) and III (400 mg/kg BW) with a corresponding . significant increase (p<0.05) in the absolute eosinophil of group III (400 mg/kg BW) when compared to the normal control (group 1). Al day 90. there was no significant difference except for absolute neutrophil of the experimental rats in group II (200 mg/kg BW) which showed a significant increase (p-0.05) in comparison to the normal control (group I).The administration of the ethanol extract of Sida acuta burm !• had no effect on the red blood cell components with only slight changes in the white blood sell components: neutrophils and eosinophils. It can be the period of time of the experiment, the administered dosage of the extract of was unable to affect the hematological profile of the experimental rats.
