ABSTRACT viii The hematological changes in plasmodiasis was evaluated in this study. Malaria parasite is a protozoan disease that is transmitted by female anopheles’ mosquito which infects humans regardless of age, sex and status. It has a worldwide distribution and often prevalent in the developing countries and areas with poor environmental hygiene. This study focuses on the incidence of plasmodiasis in relation to hematological parameters in Our Saviour Hospital Olokoro, Umuahia. Blood samples were collected via venipuncture for thick blood film and was stained with giemsa diluted l:10g/dL and rapid diagnostic techniques (RDT), while the hematological parameter were analyzed by auto analyzer machine. A total forty (40) samples were obtained from Olokoro, Umuahia. The result showed that Haemoglobin (Hb) concentration within the age range of 10-20 showed highest at age 16 with the value of 12.50g/dL while the lowest value was observed in age 12 with a value of8.65g/dl. The packed cell volume (PCV) showed highest at age 16 With the value of 38.00g/dl, while the lowest value was 26.00g/dL. For age 21-40 highest concentration includes, Hb( 15.30g/dL). The age ranging from 41-80 revealed that age 73 had the highest value of all the haematological parameters under this study. The study was therefore concluded that patients infected with different malaria parasites exhibit important changes and differences in many hematological parameters with neutrophil and eosinophil count being the two most important changes during malaria infection.
