Helminth Parasites Of Terrestrial Snails Found In Umudike, Ikwuano Lqcal Government Area, Abia State, Nigeria:- Chukwu Christian

ABSTRACT

This study on the helminth parasites of terrestrial snails in Umudike, south eastern Nigeria, was carried out from September to November, 2014. Snail species were I collected from 3 different locations (Umuarigha,MOUAU and National Root and crops Research institute) selected in the study area and were grouped according to different species and thereafter examined for helminth parasites. A total of 275 snails comprising of Archatina sp 200 (72.75%); D. multiliealus 25 (9.09%); TJttHntrs sp 40 (14.55%); and Pila ovum 10 (3.64%) were collected. A total of 122 helminths parasites comprising of Fasciola hepatica 28(22.95%), hookworm 85(69.67), Strongyloides slercoralis 5(4.09%), and Ascaris lumbricoides 4(3.27%) were found. Research showed a high prevalence of some helminths parasites in different species of terrestrial snails collected in Umudike Community, Ikwuaho Local Government Area of Abia State Nigeria.
