Health Implications Emanating From Electromagnetic Radiation On The Human Body Through The Use Of Cell Phones:- Kanu, Goodness I.

ABSTRACT

We are constantly immersed in a sea of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) and this affects our life markedly. Mobile phones are now an integral and ephemeral part of the human daily activity. The rapid growth of cell phones has raised a huge concern around the world over the potential effects of electromagnetic radiation on human health. This research work is aimed at determining the adverse health effects of exposure to electromagnetic radiation through the use of mobile phones. A survey using a structured questionnaire was conducted in 200 respondents of Aba South LGA of Abia State on the health effects experienced during the use of cell phones. The descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data obtained from the respondents. These health effects experienced by the respondents are: headaches, fatigue, burning sensation on the facial skin, ear-ache, warming of cars, sleep disturbance, neck pain, memory loss, and blurred vision. At present the mobile phone technology is being increasingly used with almost no effective precautionary advice to the public and urgent guidance is needed in order to alert the public about the inherent dangers of exposure to electromagnetic radiation.
