ABSTRACT ix Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is one the world’s most extensively used food additives which arc ingested as part of commercially processed foods. The aim of this study is to know the effect ol monosodium glutamate on the antioxidants status of the testes homogenate of monosodium glutamate intoxicated rats and also to determine the antioxidants status such as glutathione peroxidase, malondialdehyde and total protein concentration on the testes homogenate of monosodium glutamate intoxicated rats. MSG sold with the brand name “ajinomoto”, a sodium salt of glutamic acid. Its production is of three methods; hydrolysis of vegetables proteins with HC1 to disrupt peptide bonds, direct chemical synthesis with acrylonitrile, and bacterial fermentation. MSG causes oxidative stress and significant oligozoospermia. GPx, MDA and total protein concentration are antioxidants that helps in the eradication of free radicals leading to oxidative stress, also markers for lipid peroxidation and transport of fluid in the testes. Artemisinin and its semi synthetic derivatives (artemether and lumefantrine) which are groups of drugs used against plasmodium falciparum malaria, high dose of it have adverse effect it can equally increase antioxidant status. It has mechanism of action. The testis is a male reproductive organ in all animals, including humans, its function is to produce sperm and sex hormone. Different materials and methods were used in the cause of my study, study design was made, chemicals and samples were collected and results was gotten in tabular form and then discussed, showing the various effect of MSG on antioxidants status in the testes, conclusion and recommendation was made at the end ofthe study
