ABSTRACT

This research investigated the bioactive compounds present in the leave of Azadirachta indica (Neem). The experimental work presented in this project is divided into 3 major parts. The GCMS analysis of the chloroform plant extract shows the presence of 32 bioactive components followed by evaluation of the anti-microbial profile of the crude extract on selected microorganism such as Salmonella species, Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogene. 1 hcse bacterial stains were selected due to its ethno-medicinal ability of the plant. The crude extract showed a strong antimicrobial effect against all tested bacterial strains at all concentration. The zone of inhibition was more pronounced in Salmonella species (8.2 mm) and least pronounced at Proteus mirabilis (2.0 mm) using different dilution factors: 8.0 mg/ml, 4.0mg/ml and 2.0 mg/ml respectively. Lastly, vitamins assay which showed Vitamin Bi (38.05±0.45 mg/100 g), Vitamin B2 (34.50±1.10 mg/100 g), Vitamin C (53.40±3.8 mg/100 g) and Vitamin E (10.85 ± 0.65).
