ABSTRACT xi Artificial intelligence (Al) has transformed healthcare by enabling expert systems that mimic human reasoning to support diagnosis and treatment decisions, yet elderly populations continue to face challenges in accessing timely and affordable medical consultancy. This project therefore aims to design and implement an expert system for medical diagnosis and consultancy specifically for the aged, providing an intelligent solution that bridges their limited access to physicians and their difficulty in describing complex symptoms. The system seeks to deliver preliminary medical diagnosis, health advice, and simplified interaction that enhances autonomy and reduces dependency on constant human intervention. The methodology adopted is the Object-Oriented Analysis and Design Methodology (OOADM), supported by system analysis, literature review, and diagrammatic modeling to define the framework of the system. Implementation was carried out using Python as the programming language, with MySQL deployed for database management of patient records, medical rules, and consultancy cases. The significance of the project lies in its contribution to healthcare innovation by offering an accessible, cost-effective, and elderly-friendly decision-support system that promotes early detection of ailments, reduces medical costs, and improves the quality oflife for the aged.
