 ABSTRACT

Preliminary antibacterial and phytochemicaL composition studies on aqueous and methanolic extract of Sansavircia senegembica was carried out. Phytochemical screening of the leaves of Sasieeria senegembica indicate the presence of tannins, alkanoids, saponins, flavonoids, phenol and triterpenes. The methanol and aqueous extracts of Sa,,siereria senegai, ibica is inhibitory to the growth of strain of test Mrganisms such as Slreplococciis and Pseudonioizcis .species. This obviously indicates that the plant ample possess active principles that can inhibit the growth of SOC microorganisms. Generally, the level of inhibition obtained from the extraction strategies indicate that methanol was the best solvent in the extraction of the active principles of medicinal plants compared to different forms of water extraction.
