ABSTRACT X This study investigated the phytochemical, vitamin and antioxidant pioperties of Syzygium malaccense leaf. The quantitative values of the phytochemicals, and vitamins were determined, while the antioxidant activities were observed at different concentrations and were compared to standard vitamin C, Quercetin or Curcumin. The phytochemical studies of Syzygium malaccense leaf showed high level of alkaloids (11.22 ± 0.03), phytosterol (10.05 ± 0.02) and flavonoid (6.11 ± 0.01). tannins, saponin and terpenes were observed to have moderate level while phenol (0.32 ± 0.01) and anthocyanide were in trace amount. The vstudy on Syzygium malaccense showed that the leaf contains a variety of vitamins. From the result, Syzygium malaccense have high vitamin A and vitamin C content while vitamin B and vitamin E were found in trace amount. The antioxidant properties of Syzygium malaccense increased with increasing concentration. Hydrogen peroxide, Ferric oxide, nitric oxide, reducing power and ABTS scavenging activity were found to be lower than the standard vitamin C, Quercetin or Curcumin but increased as the concentration increase. The presence of these phytochemicals and vitamins support the use of Syzygium malaccense as supplement and as good raw material for the synthesis of drugs and its antioxidant properties are linked to the presence of this bioactive substances.
