ABSTRACT

The ethanolic extract of agave sisalana was used to determine the anti inflammatory effect on egg albumin induced paw oedema in adult wistar rats. A negative control containing normal saline, and a positive control containing aspirin were used to treat inflammation. 2.5ml/g of ethanolic extract and 1.0ml/g of the ethanolic extract was also used to treat inflammation. 2.5m1/ of ethanolic extract showed maximum inhibition of 38.91% at the 150th minute and minimum inhibition of -0.75% at the 1st 30 minutes. A significant difference exists at p0.O5 between the 2.5 m1/ ethanolie extract and the negative control. The 1 .0m1 of the ethanolie extract showed maximum inhibition of and a minimum inhibition of 8.96%. Also, a significant difference exists at pO.O5 between the 1 .0 ml/g ethanolic extract and the normal saline. The result shows that agave sisalana has anti-inflaniatory effects.
