Effects Of Cissus Quandragularis Extracts On Rats And Tilapia Fish.:- Amaugo, Chimereze N

ABSTRACT bark ofthe plant exhibited piscicidal properties with LDjo values of0.80pg/L, 2. lOpg/L, 0. lOpg/L, 5.50pg/L and l.OOpg/L respectively. Tests carried out with aqueous and CCU extracts on rats revealed that they were lethal with LD50 values of 109.6mg/kg and 151.4mg/kg respectively; but could not cause mortality at concentrations below lOOmg/kg. Studies also showthat when the effects ofthe extracts on the biochemical markers was analysed statistically using students t-test at 5% level ofsigificance, there were significant differences observed for each ofthe biochemical markers. Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Tannins, Saponins and Phenols were also present in the plant material. The xi Studies were carried out to investigate the effects ofCissus quandragularis on rat and tilapia fish. Phytochemicals present in the plant materials were also determined. Results showthat aqueous, n-hexane, CCI4, ethanol and chloroform extracts ofthe leafand stem findings showthat the plant is good for fish culture operations since it is easily accessible and environmentally friendly and can also be used for the control ofpests.
