Effect Of Sex Season And Strain On The Initial Body Weight Of Goats

ABSTRACT

Analysis of secondary data was carried out to investigate the effects of sex, season and strain on initial body weight of goats. The seasons in which the experiment was carried out were the early rainy season, the late rainy season, the dry season and the post rainy season and this was carried out on six strains of goats. Since the data used in this study were secondary data, there would be no need going into details about how the experiment was carried out. 1-lowever, the main objective of the study is to know whether the initial weight of goats depends on sex, strain or season or their interactions. The methods used for this are the analysis o! vuritmec (split'plot) and the method of least squarest The method of least squares was used to estimate the model parameters. After the estimations, the values were used to compute the values fbr the ANOVA table ot the spUt..plot From the ANOVA table, it was found that sex was only significant. It was lirther observed that estimates of the effects of season decreased us the season changed from rainy to dry season at a rate of 0.001. Also estimates of,strain and sex decreased at the same rate.
