ABSTRACT

The study investigated hypolipidemia activity of pineapple peel extract on wistar albino rats and also to assess the anti diabetic properties ofAnanas C'omosus by evaluating on cholesterol, High density lipoprotein (HDL). low density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglycerides. Forty one albino rats grouped in live groups were used for the study. Group A served as positive control group, group B as Negative, group C as normal control and group C and D received varying does for the crude extract (500 and lOOOmg/kg body weight). Experimental period lasted for twenty one days and blood collected via ocular puncture for lipid profile analysis. There was significant (p

<0.05) increase in serum HDL estimation in the extract administered group (500 and lOOOmg/kg) when compared to the control group. Resulting showing increase in functional HDL indicates that pineapple peels may be useful in the management of hyperlipidemia and other associated diseases.>
