ABSTRACT This study investigated the effect of methanol extract of Aristolochia albida leaves on the electrolyte profile of alloxan induced diabetic albino rats.The analytes evaluated were using sodium (Na+)'potassium (K+)chloride (Cl), bicarbonate (HCO3’), as parameters to evaluate it effects; twenty five(25) albino rats were distributed into five groups. Groupl (Normal control) received no administration of alloxan but received normal feed and water, ad libitum diabetes.Group 2(Negative control)was given water and feed ad libitum induced without treatment.rats in group 3 were (given water ad libitum diabetes) induced and treated with glibenclaimide.Group 4(given water ad libitum and treated with 50mg/kg body weight of arisolochia albida leave extract Group5 were given feed and water, treated using lOOmg/kg body weight of aristolochia albida leaves extract .The result of the study showed a significant different (p<0.05) between the control groups and test group in sodium (Na+), potassium (k+), chloride (Cl ), bicarbonate (HCO3-), which proved that Aristolochia albida has an effect on electrolyte profile of the rats.
