Effect Of Methanol Extract Of Annona Senegalensis On Protein Bound Albumin; Globulin Of Alloxan Induced Diabetic Rat.:- Ogbonna, Chinwendu C

ABSTRACT The study was designed to evaluate the anti-diabetic activity of Annona Senegalensis. Twenty five female wistar rats weighing 100 - 150g were divided into five groups consisting of five animals each. Group 1 was used as positive control administered food and water only. Group 2 served as negative control induced alloxan, group 4-5 were maintained as test group administered different doses of Annona Senegalensis leaves extract in alloxan induced albino rats. Group 3 were used as test group administered gilbenclamide as a standard drug. The anti- diabetic effect with standard drug was evaluated by determining the concentration ofthe methanol extract ofthe leaves ofAnnona Senegalensis in serum globulin, Albumin and blood glucose level in the wistar rats. Total protein level varied with negative group, group treated with different doses of extract when compared to the normal as 5.7+0.4, 8.0+0.5, 5.0+1.1, 5.3+0.1 and 4.0+0.1 while compared to the normal control group (3.5+0.6). Albumin level ranged between 2.46+1.1 (-ve group), 3.5+1.2, 2.7+0.07 and 3.6+0.08 respectively while compared to the normal group (3.6+0.5mgdl). Reduction or decrease in total serum protein indicated that the leaves extracts of Annona Senegalensis could protect the liver against variety ofliver diseases including diabetes mellitus.
