Determination Of Some Liver Enzyme Markers In The Serum Of Typhoid Patients:- Nwoko Caroline O

ABSTRACT ix Typhoid fever causes significant biochemical changes and hepatic complications. Many studies have indicated several biochemical parameters that are involved in developing the risk of typhoid fever. Serum liver enzymes were investigated in typhoid fever patients. Twenty(20) subjects were studied, Ten (10) healthy individuals and Ten (10) typhoid patients. Blood samples were collected from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike Staff Clinic. In this study, elevated level of AST (IU/L)(22.60± 3.20) and for control(l 1.50± 12.02),ALT (IU/L)(18.70+ 3.34) and for control(9.00+ 8.49) were observed in typhoid patients. Typhoid patients had significantly lower concentrations of total protein, Albumin and Globulin than those of healthy individuals. While total bilirubin (g/dL)(1.36± 0.41)andfor control(0.55+ 0.63), Conjugated bilirubin (g/dL) (0.64+ 0.26) and for control (0.15+ 0.21), alkaline phosphatase (IU/L)(104.20± 6.89) and for control(28.50+ 4.95) has no significant difference as compared to the healthy individuals.
