ABSTRACT
The edible mushroom, Pleurotus Ostreatus var Florida was grown on locally available plant wastes namely; dry banana leave, sawdust, and oil palm fiber. The experiment was carried out to determine, the effect of these wastes in the production and development of fruit bodies. The substrates were pasteurized for 8Oc for one hour in a gas-heated drum after soaking (the wastes) overnight in water. The cultures were inoculated and incubated at room temperature. Primordium initiation started about two weeks after inoculation. The primordial matured into fruit bodies in 2-3 days and harvested (Pleurotus Ostreatus var Florida). Three substrate were used for the cultivation of the Pleurotus Ostreatus among the three substrate, the best yield came from banana leaves with the total number of fruit bodies of 64%,this was followed by palm oil fiber with total number of 25% and the lowest came from sawdust with 21%.The Coprinus species inhibited the growth of Pleurotus Ostreatus fruit bodies and hence posed a threat to the experiment
