ABSTRACT

This study compared the nutritional values and phytochemical compositions of three plants (Dandelion root, unripe pawpaw seed and Lime). The Results obtained showed that Dandelion root contains more of tannin 1.05±0.02 mg/l00g, saponin 2.77±0.01 mg/l00g, flavonoid 1.09±0.01 mg/l00g, alkaloid 1.38±0.02 mg/l00g, anthraquinone 0.42±0.02 mg/lO0g steroid 0.26±0.01 mg/l00g and phenol 0.24±0.01 mg/l00g Unripe pawpaw seed has ( tannin 0.47±0.02 mg/100g, saponin 1.07±0.01 mg/l00g,flavonoid 0.85±0.01 mg/lO0g, alkaloid 0.80±0.01 mg/1 00g,anthraquinone 0.44±0.01 mg/l00g,phenol 0.17±0.01 mg/lO0g and steroid 0.19±0,01 mg/1 00g) and Lime have (tannin0.55±0.0lmg/JO0g,saponin 0.30±0.02mg/100g, flavonoid 0.35±0.03 mg/1 00g,alkaloid 0.38±0.03 mg/l 00g,antharquinone,0.34±0.02 mg/1 00g, phenol 0.17±0.01 mg/l00g and steroid 0.14±0.01 mg/lO0g). Dandelion root contains appreciable amount of minerals potassium 36.53±0.03 mg/1 00g sodium 32.42±0.02 mg/lO0g, iron 2.61±0.01 mg/1 00g, and Zinc 1.87±0.03 mg/1 00g; Unripe pawpaw seed has been found to be very rich in calcium 49.08±0.34 mg/l00g, magnesium 25.63±0.18 mg/IO0g, phosphorus 36.34±0.04 mg/l00g, then copper 0.24±0.01 mg/l00g, followed by Lime which is less in all the parameters. Furthermore, the analysis revealed that Lime has a higher value of vitamin (B; 1.05±0.02 mg/100g, B; 0.70±0.02 mg/100g, B; 1.27±0.02 mg/100g, C 30.00±0.60 mg/100g, A 69.27±0.53 mg/1 00g and E 2.67±0.04 mg/l00g) While Unripe pawpaw seed contains vitamin Bz 0.07±0.00 compared to Dandelion root and Lime.
