Coccidiosis Of Poultry Birds:- Uwakwere chinwendu .A

ABSTRACT

A study ofthe Coccidiosis ofpoultry birds was carried out in Ikot Ekpene L.G.A of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria from June to September 2011. One hundred and fifty (150) faecal samples from three privately owned poultry farms were analyzed using formol ether concentration technique. Out of the 150 faecal samples examined 97 were infected while 53 were not infected. Among all the species of Eimeria, the commonest parasite affecting the birds that were confirmed to tire poultry was Eimeria •\ tenella. However coccidiosis was found only in young birds (2-7weeks old). The data on coccidiosis ofpoultry birds kept from 2008 - 2011 were received for evaluation and the data revealed that E. tenella was the most important parasite that caused poultry disease among poultry birds in Ikot Ekpene L.G.A. Akwa Ibom State.
