Changing Roles Of Women In The Home: Implication For The Family In Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia State.

ABSTRACT

This study examined the changing roles of women in the home implication for the family in Umuahia North Local government Area of Abia State. Thirteen research questions were answered. The sample size was three hundred, made of women. Data was collected using a well structured questionnaire. The total sample size was three hundred. Validated structured questionnaire was administered on the women by simple random sampling method. Two hundred and fifty completed questionnaires were returned. Frequencies and simple percentages were used in analyzing the data. The result revealed that the roles of women have changed from being ordinary farm helpers and child bearing to doctors (82.80%), Lawyers (85.20%), entertainers (68.00%). The women work to support family income (92.4%), satisfy personal need (90.40%) and satisfy professional goals as indicated by 86.80% of the respondents. The improvement strategies on changing role of women indicate 89.6% of the respondents agreed to know their children instead of pampering them out of guilt. Therefore, policies that geared towards improving the changing roles of women should focus on women working closer to the home and opting for jobs with shorter working hours.
