ABSTRACT

Chemistry is the study of substances (matter) and how they react with one another. This interaction can be symbolized as: A + B------- > C where A and B are the reactants and C the product(s). It is pertinent to point out that this simplified illustration already has some complications inherent in the subject matter of Chemistry. One of them is that C must be physically and chemically different from A and B. For those that have little interest in the subject, Chemistry has a reputation for being a complicated and boring science, but that reputation is underserved. While preparing this lecture, I came across some statements/memory tricks some smart-aleck high-school students used to describe /identify Chemistry or core sciences.
