ABSTRACT This research project is aimed at determining the glucose, AST, total protein, hemoglobin and platelet biochemical parameters of female students in MOUAU. A total number of 60 female participants from three hostels in MOUAU namely: Grace Allele, NDDC and Goodluck Jonathan were recruited for this study. They were divided randomly in two groups as 15-20 years age range and 21-26 years age range. A detailed history and physical examination were carried out for every subject who entered in the study as per a pre-designed proforma. Examination comprised of a through physical examination assessment of vital parameters, anthropometry and systemic examination. A total of 5 ml ofblood sample (random) was collected using tourniquet, syringe and needle from the vein. Serum was separated immediately by centrifuging whole blood for 10 minutes and analysed for hepatic, hematological and glycaemic profiles. All the biochemical and haematological investigations were carried out by using the standard laboratory protocols. The result ofthe glucose concentration ofthe age groups for a total population of 60 students'showed that there was a significant (p<0.05) difference between the age groups under study. The age group of 21-26 had the highest value of 98.60±0.14 mg/dl compared to that ofthe age group 15-20 years which had a value of 94.65±0.07 mg/dl. The result ofthe AST (Aspartate transaminase) activity ofthe age groups for a total population of 60 students showed that there was a significant (p<0.05) difference between the age groups under study. The age group of 21 -26 had the lowest value of 26.42±0.01 IU/L compared to that ofthe age group 15-20 years which had a value of 28.40±0.01 lU/L.The result of the total protein concentration of the age groups for a total population of 60 students showed that there was a significant (p<0.05) difference between the age groups under study. The age group of 21-26 had the highest value of 14.65±0.07 g/dl compared to that ofthe age group 15-20 years which had a value of 13.36±0.08 g/dl. The result of the total hemoglobin concentration of the age groups for a total population of 60 students showed that there was a significant (p<0.05) difference between the age groups under study. The age group of 21-26 had the highest value of 14.65±0.07 g/dl compared'to that of the age group 15-20 years which had a value of 114.85±0.07 g/dl. The result ofthe platelet count ofthe age groups for a total population of 60 students showed that there was a significant (p<0.05) difference between the age groups under study. The age group of 21-26 had the highest value of 31.05±0.14 103/p.L compared to that of the age group 15-20 years which had a value of 26.60±0.14 103/p.L. There were higher values ofthe parameters in the age range of 21-26 years compared to the age range of21-26 years except for AST values which was higher the age range of 15-20 years.
