ABSTRACT
For thousands of years, hernias observed arrivals because their survival depended on the knowledge of animals. This had led to great practical significance. An example cited by Wilson (1998): information on the reproductive behaviour of insect pests ultimately led to their control. There are two types or levels of analysis in the study of animal behaviour according to their divisions (Tinbergen 1963; Sherpman 1988; Holekamp et al 1989, and Alcock 2001): PROXIMAL CAUSES AND ULTIMATE CAUSES. 1.1.1 PROXIMAL CAUSES: They are the immediate underlying causes based on. the operation of internal mechanisms possessed by an individual. They ask the question How" in explanation to the behaviour of an organisms. There make-ups are: genetic and sensory mechanisms. a) Genetic Mechanisms: Which include:- developmental mechanisms, 4 effect of inheritance on behaviour, development of sensory motor systems •via gene environment interaction b) Sensory Motor Mechanisms: nervous systems for the detection Of environmental stimuli, hormonal system for adjusting responsiveness to environmental stimuli, skeletal- muscular system for carrying out responses 1.1.2 ULTIMATE CAUSES: The evolutionary historical reasons why something is the way it is. They could be studied in these ways listed below and ask the WHY" questions about behaviour. It is studied thus: a) Historical Pathways: Leading to a current behavioural trait, these include events occurring over evolution from the origin of the trait to the present.
