ABSTRACT

The rapid growth of electronic commerce (E-commerce) has necessitated the development ofE-commerce protocols. In E-Commerce credit cards gained popularity as a sophisticated payment mechanism. With the increase in credit card use on web, credit card fraud has gone up dramatically. This has’resulted to customer’s inconvenience and for merchant, loss of genuine customers. Thus an automated E-commerce trust-based payment system is to be designed to combat credit card fraud and regain customer’s trust. Here, the customer does not need to disclose his/her credit card number during the transaction because on behalf ofthe customer, the bank or the issuer ofthe credit card is involved to perform the transaction. This is basically done by generating a single use “token” by the bank which includes information about the customer, merchant, product, payment amount, date of issue and date of expiry e.t.c., hence customers can feel safe during transaction. Here, our emphasis in on encryption which is a basic form of protection of information. The methodology used for the design is the structured system analysis and design method (SSADM). Encryption and decryption programs are developed and implemented using PHP programming language because PHP programming language is a server side scripting language with system level security safeguards which makes it highly secured. And the result shows that encrypted files are more difficult to read and crack by an intruder, thereby making an E-commerce transaction a secured and effective channel of transaction.
