ABSTRACT

The research entitled "the attitude of couples towards family planning" was conducted to access the attitude of couples towards family planning in Bende Community in Bende L.G.A. of Abia State. The level of acceptability of family planning in Bende community was evaluated; role of education on the acceptability of family planning was also evaluated. Sample for the study comprised of 250 couples drawn from the community through stratified random sampling technique. The tool for the data collection was questionnaire. It was seen that the use of natural contraceptive (safe period) was adopted by the people followed by condom, lUDs, withdrawal and pill. The study revealed that the couple's educational status does not play an important role in the acceptability of family planning among couples in Bende, it was equally discovered that couples in Bende embraces the traditional family planning method than the modern one. The researcher therefore calls on both government and NGOs to help ensure the sensitization of the couples on need for family planning and its benefits.
