Assessment Of The Provision Of The Facilities For Healthful Practices In Secondary Schools Of Aba — North L.G. A Of Abia State

ABSTRACT

This study aimed at assessing the provision of facilities for healthful practices in public secondary schools of Aba — North Local Government Area of Abia State. The research design was descriptive survey. To guide the study, six research questions were posed and answered. A sample of 200 respondents made up the sample. A 30- items questionnaire was used to collect data. The instrument was duely validated and its reliability index stood at 0.85 and 0.58 using Pearson Product Moment Correlation co-efficient procedure. Mean scores were used for data analysis. The findings indicated that schools are located in heavy traffic areas, sewage facilities are appropriate, washed regularly but the schools do not use disinfectants. The refuse bins are available but school practice open dumping and refuse burning. Recreational facilities were available in the schools, such as field for foothall, large compound for playing around, but usually flooded. The school buildings are adequate but have few number of students. The schools are provided with water. Based on the findings, discussion, implications and recommendations were made and one of the recommendations was that, the inspection of schools should be done on regular basis to ensure strict adherence to the implementation of school health policy.
