Anti Ulcer Effect Of Quail Egg On Wistar Albino Rat:- Mbama, Ngozika E

ABSTRACT Xi Ulcer is one of the most prevalent gastrointestinal disorders, which allccts approximately 5-10% of people during their life. In recent years, abundant work has been carried out on herbal medicine to clarify their potential efficacy in gastric ulcer prevention or management. Here, present study was carried out to investigate antiulcer activity of quail egg content on ethanol induced ulceration in the wistar albino rats. Preliminary quail egg content was subjected to the acute oral toxicity study. Based on which, three volume levels i.c. 0.5ml, 1.0ml and 1.5ml were selected for the further study. In ethanol induced ulcer model, various parameters were studied which arc gastric volume, pl I, and ulcer index. Ulcer index and percentage inhibition of ulceration was determined for ethanol induced ulcer model. 1.0ml omeprazole of which was used as the standard drug. Pretreatment of quail egg content showed no significant (P>0.05) decrease in ulcer and ulcer score index. However, omeprazole showed significant (*P<0.05) decrease in number of ulcers and ulcer score index in ethanol induced ulceration models. The result shows that the quail egg content docs not possess significant antiulcer properties. In conclusion, findings from our study indicates that the quail egg content docs not have protective effect against ulcerative lesions induced by ethanol compared to the standard drug omeprazole that reduced significantly the pathogenesis of ulcer when pretreated with rats.
