ABSTRACT

The chemical analysis of dried leaves of Gnetum africanum and Pterocarpus soyawxii gotten from Ndioro market were carried out using the method approved , by AOAC.The leaves were weighed and divided into three parts and the phytochemical, vitamin and mineral contents were determined on the leaves. The , qualitative analysis carried out on the two. leaves showed the presence of the following Phytochemicals and their values. Alkaloid; (ukazi 1.98,2.14) and (uha 2.64, 2.58), Saponin; (0.35,0.40) and (0.58,0.610), Flavonoid; (0.52,0.65) and (0.36,0.44) Tannis; (0.220, 0.240) and (0.165,0.180) of ukazi and uha respectively. , The mineral composition and their values. Phosphorus; (ukazi 0.485,0.500) and (uha 0.285,0.225), Calcium; (3.61,3.51) and (2.21,2.31), Magnessium; (1.16,1.28) and (0.73, 0.85), Potassium; (0.675,0.650) and (2.00,1.90), Sodium; (0.25,0.225) and (0.375,0.355), for the two leaves respectively. The Vitamin composition and their values. Ascorbic acid; (ukazi 12.80, 12.64) and (22.00,25.10), Thiamine; (0.21,0.195) and (0.160,0.150), Riboflavin; (0.090,0.112) ~~ (0.140,0.135), Niacin; (1.21,1.20) and (1.05, 1.08), Beta- carotenoid; (25.10,24.90) and (14.90,15.10), for the leaves respectively. The results obtained from this analysis studied show that the two different leaves have significant nutrient.
