Analgesic And Anti Inflammatory Properties Of Quail Egg On Wistar Albino Rats:- Okenwa Victoria A

ABSTRACT v This in vivo study was undertaken to investigate the possible properties ofquail eggs on analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in rat. Formalin test in rat were used to investigate the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect of quail egg. Analgesic activity of quail egg was evaluated by measuring the number ofpaw licks response ofrat upon formalin-induced pain. Studies were carried on the formalin induced antiinflammatory activities in rat, one hour after post-drug administration, inflammation was induced by sub-plantar injection of 0.1ml offormalin in the left hind paw. The quail egg was administered orally at doses of 0.3ml, 0.6ml and 0.9ml/kg with the positive drug control as indomethacin and the normal control was given only water without the extract. Inflammation volume was measured using a thread and ruler with readings taken at 30mins intervals. The curative study shows that quail egg possess analgesic and anti-inflammatoiy activity due to its ability to inhibit with a significant level of(p<0.05) at later phase (0.9ml/kg), its high ratio of omega — 3 to omega - 6 fatty acid makes it useful in the treatment of painful and inflammatory conditions which may provide therapeutic effect in the management of pain and inflammation.
