The Effect Of Enzyme Supplementation On The Performance Of Pullets Fed Soybean Meal Or Groundnut Cake Based Diets
ABSTRACT
One hundred and fifty day-old Black Boran Nera pullets were used to evaluate the effect of enzyme supplementation on the performance of puilets fed soybean meal (SBM) or groundnut cake (GNC) based diets. The enzyme used was Bio-growth Promoters? (Saccharoniyces cerevisciae, 1.5 x 108 cfu and Lactobacillus sporogenes, 30 million cfu). The experimental design was 2 x 2 factorial in a completely randomized design (CRD). There were four treatment diets each replicated three tunes with eleven pullet chicks per replicate. Parameters measured were initial live weight, final live weight, weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein intake, mortality and protein efficiency ratio (PER). Also the costs of feeding the diets were determined. The results of the experiment showed that pullets fed soybean meal (SBM) diet had significantly (P0.05) affect the performance of the pullets while the effect of the interaction between protein source (GNC or SBM) and enzyme supplementation was not significant (P>0.05). Soybean meal based diets (with or without enzyme) were significantly costlier (N33.76 and N34.34)
