ABSTRACT
The possible contamination of eight brands of pasta food
which include Indomie, spaghetti investigated following the identification of
pesticide residues in Indomie noodles and the contamination of baby foods with
poisonous cassava materials. Enzymatic analysis of the foods for cyancide
content indicated the presence of this compound at the range of 9.12 — 88.31
ppm. Chemical analysis of the pasta foods also showed the presence of alkaloids
and saponins in all the brands, tannins and saponins in two brands and
carbohydrate in all the samples. The toxicological implication of these finding
are discussed.
