ABSTRACT

 The study examined proliferation of fast food industries and the influence on nutritional health of adolescents in Enugu State, five objective guided the study which is as follows: to examine the factors influencing consumer behavior when shopping for fashion items in Isigate, To identify the level of proliferation of fast food in Enugu State, to identify the impact on the nutritional health ofthe adolescents, to identity how fast food affects the relationship ofthe adolescents and the family, to determine how fast food affect the family income and to suggest possible ways to promote nutritional health of the adolescents. The study adopted descriptive survey research design.The population of the study will comprised mainly of all adolescents (15-20 years) in Enugu LGA. Primary data was used with the aid of a well-structured questionnaire. The purposive sampling method was used for the study and the sample size was 100 respondents. The study was analyzed using Mean and Standard. The result on adolescent nutritional health showed that fast food significantly affects their well-being. Many fast food items were found to be calorie-dense (Mean: 3.47). low in essential nutrients (3.43), and high in added sugars and sodium (3.10). Regular consumption of fast food was linked to unhealthy eating patterns (2.89). East food was revealed to disrupt family relationships. It was associated with eating on the go or at different times and led to disagreements with family members. Frequent visits to fast food restaurants strained family budgets (3.19), and adolescents' preference for fast food led to disagreements and tension within families.The study on family income highlighted the financial implications of fast food consumption. Respondents agreed that fast food can be more expensive on a per-meal basis compared to preparing meals at home (3.45) and that money spent on fast food represents an opportunity cost (3.35). Fast food expenses were perceived to strain family budgets, potentially leading to financial stress (3.00). In conclusion, these studies reveal the farreaching impact of fast food on health, family dynamics, and finances. The mean values presented here reflect the level of agreement among respondents on various aspects. The findings emphasize the importance of promoting healthier dietary choices, family communication, and financial literacy to mitigate the adverse effects of fast food consumption on individual and family well-being.
