ABSTRACT
10 specimen of stingray all member
of the family Dasyatidea, from River Niger. Two species of this family occur
mainly or exclusively in fresh water: Dayatis garouaensis (Stauch and Blac,
1962) and Dayastis ukpamn (Smith, 1893) Dasyatis garouoaensis, a small, bodied
species previously known only from Lagos and Cross River. It is closely related
to Dasyatis ukpam. A large thick bodied species was sported at Old Calabar
River. Morphormetric and meristic measurement was done according to Compagno
and Lovejoy, 1984.
