ABSTRACT The study focused on the impact of technological innovation on organizational performance in developing economies with reference to state tertiary institutions in Abia State Nigeria. The specific objectives were to: ascertain the effect of technological innovation on the learning capability of students in the tertiary institutions, examine the relationship between technological innovation adaptability and the performance of tertiary institutions and ascertain the effect of technological innovation capability on the quality of researches embarked on in the tertiary institutions in Abia State among others. The researcher made use of survey research design. The population of the research consist of all the academic staff of Abia State University Uturu and Abia State Polytechnic Aba. Simple random sampling techniques, primary and secondary data were used. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used to analyze the objectives and to test the hypotheses posited with the aid of Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. The major findings revealed that Student Online Registration/Database, Digital/ELibraries, ITC Centre are the major educational technological innovations adopted in the tertiary institutions in Ahia State. The result also revealed that technological innovations have a positive effect on learning capability of students. Online Registration/Database, Digital/ELibraries, JCT Centre etc., are educational technological innovations that are significant and positively related to the performance of tertiary institutions in Abia State. The researcher concluded that technological innovation adoptability in tertiary institutions is a gateway in accelerating and developing the capability and competency of students, and enhancing the quality of research conducted in the tertiary institutions, and recommends that tertiary institutions should sustain and enhance the technological innovations already adopted as it positively affect learning capability of students in the institutions. However, the need for the institutions to invest more on technological innovations that are not yet obtainable in the institutions was emphasized by the researcher.
