ABSTRACT
This work
seeks to examine the “Impact of Culture on Management Decision Making (A study
of selected broadcasting organizations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.” The major
objective is to determine the impact of culture on the management decision
making in the selected broadcasting organizations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State,
while the specific objectives include to identify the cultures existing in the
selected Broadcasting Organizations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to ascertain the
extent to which culture has contributed on the growth of the selected
Broadcasting Organizations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to determine the
relationship between culture and decision-making in the selected Broadcasting
Organizations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to highlight decision making processes
in the selected broadcasting organizations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and to
evaluate the cultural factors affecting decision-making in the selected
Broadcasting Organizations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The Ex-post facto research
design was adopted in this study. The data for the study were obtained from
primary and secondary sources. The primary source consists of questionnaire
while the secondary sources were obtained from textbooks, journals, newspapers,
websites and online broadcasting bulletins. The population consists of both
managerial and non managerial staff of the selected broadcasting organizations
which totaled to five hundred (500). However, the sample size was determined
using Taro Yamane formula and a total of two hundred and twenty two (222) was
obtained. Data obtained was analyzed using frequencies and percentages. In
order to achieve the objectives ofthe study, all the hypotheses were tested.
The study found that culture has a great impact on management decision making
ofthe selected broadcasting organizations in Akwa Ibom State. Also, that
culture has contributed significantly to the growth of the selected
broadcasting organizations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The study recommends that
decision should be made based on consideration of the culture of organization,
employees should be involved in decision making, culture should be one of great
considerations of organizations in their management decision making, decision
making should be followed duly by decision making processes and value should be
placed on cultural factors affecting decision making.
