ABSTRACT

This study was on gender perspective in the application of information and communication technology (ICT), in rural livelihood activities as a strategy for poverty reduction in Umuahia South .XA of Abia State. The broad objective examined gender issues in the application of ICTs on livelihood activities. Data used in the research were obtained thrnl!ah the use of' structured questionnaire and personal interviews with rural farmers. The analytical tools used were descriptive rtatictic such a simp! percentage and probit regression analysis. ICT index have a positive coefficient, and were statistically significant at 1°/a. They have played a vital role in the use of ICT. Some of the constraints in the use of ICTs include lack of electricity, lack of access to infrastniciures, illiteracy etc t was reconmer.d ed iht adequate supply of electricity should be provided for maximum use of ICT, and that government should encourage locally assembled computers to enable more people to have access to the use ICTs at a reasonable cosl.
