Evaluation Of Water Distribution System In Mouau Towards Environmental Sustainability Of Distribution Pipes (Case Study Of Entrepreneurship Building Mouau)
ABSTRACT
The purpose of distribution system is
to deliver water to consumer at appropriate quality, quantity and pressure.
Water distribution system can also be used for commercial establishments,
Distribution system is a network of pipelines that distribute water to the
consumers and it has not been up to standard in MOUAU. So the project was
carried out in the entrepreneurship study building (MOUAU) to evaluate the kind
of pipe and the type of distribution layout being used in water distribution in
MOUAU. Comparism was made with other pipes by visiting other sites to know the
differences between the three pipes being used in the study which is, polyvinyl
chloride pipes(PVC), Galvanized iron pipes(GI) and the high density
polyethylene pipe (HDPE). It was finally realized that HDPE supersedes other
types of pipes and especially the galvanized and the PVC type as used in MOUAU
because from the result gotten from the field which was shown in chapter four
where the strength, bending ability, life span, resistance to corrosion, depth
of installation, type of material and cost was represented with values of
4,3,2,1 according to the level of the property of each pipe. It was finally
shown in a graphical with a comparative bar chart to show the comparism between
the three pipes used in the different location. HDPE has 4 while GI and PVC has
the 3,2 and 1 to show that HDPE supersedes all in different properties other
values as the case may be. So it is recommended that the HDPE pipe being the
champion in 21st century for proper water distribution should be used for water
distribution in MOUAU because it is inherently tough, resilient and resistant
to problem caused by external loads and a distribution network should also be
introduced with a source.
