ABSTRACT
The study investigated on the Effect of value-added tax on the performance of economic indices. The objectives of the study are; to examine the effect of value-added tax on gross domestic product of Nigeria, to determine the effect of valueaddedtaxoninflationrateofNigeriaandto examine the effect of value added tax on unemploymentrateofNigeria.To achieve the objectives of the study, the export factor research design was adopted. Theresearcheradoptedsecondarydata in getting the required information. In testing the hypotheses, simple regression analysis was used. The findings revealed that Valueaddedtax has a significant effect on gross domestic product of Nigeria.Thefindingsfurtherrevealedthatvalueaddedtaxhasasignificanteffecton the inflation rate of Nigeria.The researcher recommends that the management and administration of VAT in Nigeria should be done in a manner that it will not have an adverse effect on the economy such as distorting the forces of demand and supply: The researcher further recommends that though VAThasapositive impact on the economy.effort should be made to exempt infant industries from VAT in order to encourage them to grow.
