ABSTRACT
This study deals on the effect of government expenditure on health in Nigeria. The specific
objectives are; to investigate the effects of government expenditure on maternal health in Nigeria, to evaluate the effects ofpublic expenditure on infant mortality rate in Nigeria and to examine the effects of public expenditure on life expectancy rate in Nigeria. To achieve the objectives of the study ex-post facto research design was adopted. The study adopted secondary data through CBN statistical bulletin. To test the hypotheses, multiple regression analysis was used. The findings revealed that Government expenditure has a significant effect on maternal health in Nigeria. The findings also revealed that Public expenditure has a significant effect on infant mortality rate in Nigeria. Public expenditure has a significant effect on life expectancy rate in Nigeria development of Nigeria. The study recommends that Government of Nigeria (FGN) should increase and restructure the public expenditure allocation to health sector in order to provide more health facilities and also, adequate management offunds and development of health services should be greatly pursued.
