ABSTRACT

The broad objective in this study is the effect of out-migration on the output of arabic crop farmers in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State and the specific objectives are to: determine the socio-economic characteristics of the farmers, identify the causes out-migration among the arable crop farmers and the effect of out-migration among the Arabic crop farmers in the study area and make recommendations based on the findings of the study. Data was collected with the use of a well structured questionnaire and oral interview with a sample size of fift\ iiirmers. Objective one was analyzed with the use of simple descriptive statistical tools such as frequency table and percentages. objective three was analyzed with the use of regression analysis. The linear functional form was chosen as the lead equation based on the magnitude of the coefficient. The co-efficient of multiple determinations (R2) was 0.6594 which that 9594% of the variables in the output of arabic crop farmers were explained by the variations included in the equal mode!. Majority of the farmers are female, greater percentage of arabic crop farmers age ranged from 5 1-60 years, majority of the farmers are married, the household size of 1-3 had the highest percentage. majority of the farmers are graduates, greater percentage of the farmers had years of experience of not more than five years and majority of them are civil servants. The causes of out-migration among the arabic crop farmers had both negative and positive effect in the output of the arabic crop farmers.
