ABSTRACT

The studyfocused on the effect of expenditure control on performance ofpublic sector in Nigeria: a study of Umuahia North L. G.A Abia State.  The specific objectives are to;  examine the extent to which expenditure control affects the accountability of public  sector ·in  Nigeria  examine the relationship between expenditure control and efficient allocation of resources in public sector,  to ascertain the effect of expenditure control on effective management ofpublic fund.The researcher used both primary  and secondary data in getting the relevant information. Survey researcher designed was adopted and simple  regression analysis was used in testing the hypothesis the findings revealed that expenditure control has a significanteffecton accountability of public sector in Nigeria, there is a relationship between expenditure control and efficientallocation of resources inpublic fund. The researcher recommended that the public expendituremanagement instruments should set out to controlfiscal indiscipline while supporting the allocation of resources towards the growth and development goals and objectives and to introduce and sustained these public expenditure reforms which are pre requisite for  national development,  requires political will on part of the government by this there will be an impact on the performance of public sector in Nigeria.
